Words, Not Just For Eating...
Have you ever stopped to wonder where words get their power? I mean, what a person says can have a huge impact on the world and people around them...So where does this universe-altering energy come from?
Does it come from the letters? How can it? When letters don't even have a common structure throughout this single world, it's hard to believe that some scribbles can do anything to anyone.
Maybe it comes from the words themselves...nah, if that were the case then it would be impossible for people to use derogatory words in a positive way.
Perhaps meaning is the culprit! Who am I kidding? Words can have multiple meanings, I mean just look at the word "screw" You can screw in a lightbulb, screw your mate, you can even screw over a whole country. Nope, meaning is meaningless...
It would appear that intent is our final option. But can something as simple as intent be so powerful? Yes, I suppose it can. When people have such a finite number of words and letters available to them, intent seems to be the thing that distinguishes the purpose of those words and gives them their purpose. When a man pulls out a gun and yells "You no-good mother f#####r!" You can tell that he means you harm. But when a man throws his arms around another man and says the same thing, it's a sign of friendship.
So watch your intent everyone...especially if you have a potty mouth...
