An Answer
This question came from my friend La'Torre. That's right, I actually have friends...
He asked, "Is this your time, or should you have been born in another age???"
And after some thought, I have decided that I'm exactly where I belong. Not in the location sense, but definately in time. True, most of the time I would rather be in the past where my love of swordsmanship isn't so obscure and where laws don't prevent carrying a foil...but if I were, then I wouldn't have the people in my life who have made a difference in the person I am now.
Let's give a round of applause to our family and our elusive friends!!!!!!

You can actually find both in the Current Middle Ages. You should check out the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). http://www.sca.org/

You can definitely get your fill of sword fighting as either a heavy fighter (sword and shield) or rapier (fencing type). And there is a lot more besides that.
