Traversing The Media

Do you know what the problem with having a holiday based on romance is? Some people (a lot in fact) get left out and depressed. I know because I used to be one of them…but then I discovered that everyday is only what you believe it to be.

If you see Valentine’s day as a day of love and passion, that’s all it will be…but if you see it as another version of April Fools Day, it can be very entertaining!!! If you like that idea, here are just a few things you can try…

Send REALLY butch men valentine cards from fake men.
Lay dead flowers on peoples doorsteps.
Wear a black veil (ladies) and talk about death all day.

Another thing that can be fun is to create your own holidays…My personal favorite is “Computer Upgrade Day.” But if nothing brilliant comes to your mind, here are some existing things to celebrate…

But the main thing is to never let a commercial holiday get you down…remember what Nietzsche wrote:

“I searched for great human beings; I always found only the apes of their ideals.”

Happy Whatever...

In the spirit of the holidays that we are celebrating, I would like to comment…

So many people make a big deal out of this time of year, some even take the occasion all the way and celebrate with elaborate shindigs. All the while, nobody ever stops to think about the few who are left out and have no holiday to celebrate. Some of you may know what I’m talking about, while others may be saying what is this idiot speaking of?

I’m talking about February…AKA Black Heritage month. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great thing and often help with the celebrations. My problem lies in the overlooked minorities…

The “white” people get pretty much every day of the year.

“Native Americans” get Thanksgiving…oh, wait that holiday celebrates killing them.

“African Americans” get all of February and a few other days.

Actual “Africans” get Kwanzaa.

“Mexican” people get Cinco de Mayo and Cesar Chavez day as well as a couple others.

“Chinese” folks get their own new year!!!

Religious people REALLY make out with all the holidays they get.

So where are the holidays for all the other groups that get left out? What about the Polish, Italian, Japanese, German, French, Greek, Arab, Persian, Vietnamese, Korean, Russian, Swedish, Armenian, Indian, and all the other neglected races? Do people actually think that giving a few ethnic groups their own holidays will put an end to hundreds of years of racism?

COME ON!!!!!

OK, since it’s never appropriate to point out problem unless you have a solution…here are the options I can see.:

Option 1…Give everyone a holiday.

Option 2…Give nobody a holiday.

Simple, eh?

AND WHAT ABOUT THE DAMN PENGUINS??? WHERE’S THEIR HOLIDAY???
