Special Thanks

Is it possible to know the future? Yes, although most people are too wrapped in veils of modernity to even see the past. That’s right, your ol’ pal Ricky is at it again. I just came here to tell you people to get your heads out of the sand! Rise up and look at tomorrow!!!

What do you have to lose by looking into the future? I’m not asking you to develop ESP and actually view future events, I just want more people to give a flip about where they are going!!!

I’ve already given up on society as a whole, but there are a few people out there who still manage to make life worth living. And I’m not talking about love (although love is definitely worth living for), I’m talking about intelligent people who can still carry on a conversation. Not counting my somewhat elusive friend, the longest coherent two-sided conversation I had this weekend was with MYSELF!!!!!! AND IT ONLY LASTED 2 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I do want to thank the wondrous few who manage to keep thought alive…not just the braniacs, nerds, geeks (like me), and eggheads, but the everyday folks who don’t just accept what is.

Thanks to everyone who thinks for himself or herself!!! You are the reason that humanity will still be around in 10 years…

Gratiae pro reputo…

Insert Shaft Here

What kind of stupidity does it take for EVERYONE to ignore the obvious? I mean, honestly, how can I be the only person on a committee of 15 people who can do BASIC MATH???

Let’s start with a little BG here…The city has a crime rate that has been increasing every year until 2005. Four years ago, the “weed and seed” program was started in 1/5th of the city. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, weed and seed is joint effort between law enforcement, community organizations, and churches that works to abolish crime in a specified area.

Today I was in a meeting where the head of weed and seed was bragging about his work and how it was benefiting the city. Here is his main bragging point, “Crime in our section of town is down 75%.” Well, naturally I posed the question, “Has anybody checked the crime rates in the rest of the city since the program began?” This is where the stupidity comes in…

In one-fifth of the city the crime rate has decreased 75%

In the ENTIRE city (including the one-fifth) the crime rate is down 1.5% That's ONE POINT FIVE PERCENT!!!!!!

Any mathematical geniuses out there who can put two-and-two together? That’s right, they are DISPLACING THE CRIME!!!!!!!! This is not a solution, this is like throwing your dog poop in the neighbor’s yard!!!!!!

HOW THE @#&$ CAN THEY NOT SEE THIS????

Do you want to know what the other people on the committee said when I brought this up? “Well, we will have to check the statistics on that before we can make an assumption like of that magnitude.”

Please, if my math is wrong, somebody tell me!!!!

A New Toast

Today I met a man who had gone from owning a recording studio to working at Wal-Mart. The first thing I thought was, “How pathetic can a guy be?” But then I went home and made it my topic of meditation, and this is what I got out of it.

Everyone has dreams…and although most people are afraid to realize those dreams, some have the guts to stare down the barrel of society’s 50 caliber machine-gun of criticism and risk those dreaded words, “I told you that you would fail.” These few people are more often met with negative energies from others than with inspiration and positive thinking. They are the ones who not only built this country, but made almost every discovery known to humanity.

And yes, more of these people fail than succeed…but that is not the fault of the dreamer, it is the fault of the smog-sucking masses that fought them every step of the way. Do you want to know the reason so many small businesses fail in their first year? Schadenfreuda!!! That’s right, the only thing people love more than their own success is the failure of others!!! Do you know what the 4th most uttered phrase in the English language is? “I told you so.”

So here’s to the dreamers who go out with a bang!!!

I may be one of you someday…but for now, everything is working out just as I had hoped.

Last Year

The new year has left behind many things…many that are best forgotten, but a few that will always be with me in spirit. The biggest changes of the year were people leaving things behind.

My best friend left me behind and will always be with me in spirit, although I won’t see him for a couple years until his divorce. Aren’t I supportive?

A friend that I’ve been hanging out with since high school just moved to San Diego…from Arkansas. But at least he still answers my phone calls.

My grandmother has moved up here from New Orleans, so now I have no more excuses to go down there.

But I have made a few previously elusive discoveries that will impact my life for a VERY VERY long time. All I can say is “baby steps.” Sometimes discoveries must be made a little bit at a time…especially when you’re making discoveries about complex subjects.

Overall I had a good year…even with all the disasters. Thanks to my inspirer, I have almost no time to sulk about things that have been lost. Now, on to the new year!!!
Thank you angel of inspiration…
